Baja (Lower) California (Calle Fornia or "hot oven" as Cortez called the region) was the bit that the Americans did not want. It is a 1000mile long peninsula with Tijuana at the top and Cabo San Lucas at the bottom. It is desolate with the most beautiful empty beaches.
